Treating Cultureware (Well Plates, Culture Flaskes, and Petri Dishes) With Vacuum Plasma

Since many different types of cultureware devices are molded from hydrophobic materials – such as polystyrene – some modification of the surface of the device is required to alter the surface energy of the polymer to enhance wettability.  Because of the relatively short treatment lifetime of atmospheric treatments (such as corona discharge), many end-users of these devices opt for vacuum plasma treatments.

Unlike corona discharge, vacuum plasma treatments offer significantly longer treatment lifetime, as well as being – generally speaking – more uniform and consistent from lot to lot.
